There are things I changed just to suit my tastes I am sure the original recipe would have been just as good.
I added onto the normal salt and pepper Old Bay, garlic salt, more paprika, a little ground red pepper, onion powder and then I dusted it with flour. What helped me know that the pan was hot enough was something I learned from the Food Network.
I just took a tiny pinch of flour and tossed it in the oil I did not use the extra unsalted butter. My fiance ate the whole thing before I could sit down! He said it was better than his mom's! Thank you so much for this dish! Read More. Most helpful critical review Julie P.

That's why we season the filets with a hearty pinch of salt and some freshly ground black pepper right off the bat. Tilapia is almost never sold with the skin, meaning there's no opportunity to get a nice crunchy sear. In order to bring some texture back to the fish, we give it a light dredge in flour.
This golden, crunchy coating is really what takes this recipe over the edge. If you're looking to mix up the spices, smoked paprika, dried oregano, or even spice blends like Old Bay all would go swimmingly har har with this fish.
If you're serving fish, there's a good chance there's some sort of citrus on the table. The acid helps cut through the rich flavors and helps balance the final dish. Lemon or lime wedges won't ever let you down, but if you're feeling adventurous, try orange or grapefruit! Don't forget to finish with fresh herbs! They bring freshness, flavor, and dimension to your final dish.
Go with whatever you love, just make sure it doesn't clash with the spices you used. Think: basil, parsley, cilantro, chives, fresh oregano, or tarragon.
Better yet, mix and match! There's no such thing as too many herbs. Happy cooking! Kitchen Tips and Tools. Delish Shop. Defrosting the fish completely ensures that the fillets cook evenly. Oh my stars! Thank you for this wonderful recipe We will add this to our weekly rotation for sure! The recipe says to add the oil and spices to the uncooked fillets but then says to add 2 tbsp to pan to cook. So is this a total of 4 tbsp for the recipe? Hi Jennifer, you need 2 tablespoons of oil for this recipe. You either add to the fillets or you add to the pan to cook.
